Examining the effect of the use of model and augmented reality technology on students' academic achievement, motivation and interest levels in science education

In this study, it is aimed to investigate the effects of models and material designed with augmented reality technology on the academic success of students, their motivation and interest levels towards the science course, on the subject of "Support and Movement System" in the "Systems in Our Body" unit of secondary school 6th grade science course. For this purpose, augmented reality experimental group, modeling experimental group and control group are included in the scope of the study. The research sample consists of a total of 66 students studying at a public secondary school in the Küçükçekmece district of Istanbul province between the 2020-2021 academic year. In order to collect data, Science Achievement Test consisting of 30 multiple-choice questions, 5-point Likert-type Science Motivation Scale consisting of 23 items and 5-point Likert-type Science Interest Scale consisting of 27 items were used to collect data in the research. The problem of the research is, "Does the use of model and augmented reality technology in science education have an effect on the academic success, motivation and interest levels of 6th grade secondary school students?" poses a question. The quasi-experimental design was chosen as the model of the research. After performing the normality test when analyzing the data obtained as a result of the research, the Kruskal Wallis test was used when making multiple comparisons, and the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks test was used when comparing paired groups. Mann Whitney U was used when comparing the data of two different groups. As a result of the findings; It has been concluded that the use of augmented reality and modeling technique in science lessons has a statistically significant effect on students' academic success, motivation and interest in science lesson.
