An analysis on science and technology teachers' use of information and comminication technology- the Bolu case

Abstract (EN)
This study is based on investigation of Science and Technology teachers attitudes toward Information and Communication Technology (ICT). This study is a survey study has been performed in the 56 public schools which are located in Bolu provincial centre and counties. 39 female and 34 male teachers have been working in 56 public schools in Bolu participaleted. attended to this work whose age of range is from 21 to 56.The survey used in the study consists of two parts. First part includes 34 questions demographic information and use of computer and Internet. Most of these teachers did not take any course about Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in their undergraduate education, but they stated that they would like to attend to such training if it will be given in their counties. Most of these attendences have used the computer and they mostly uzed the Microsoft Word program. Almost all of the teachers use the computer in their lessons. They use the Internet for setting information and the computer for investigation and learning.The second part of the questionnaire includes a attitude scale of 38 questions. The Likert type attitude cerunts of free point which are ?Certainly Agree, Agree, Uncertain, Do Not Agree, Certainly Do Not Agree?. These options were coded as 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 respectively for the positive questions and vice versa for the negative questions. The items are categorized into three categories namely, ?Education?, ?Teacher? and ?Student?.These data was analyzed by using descriptional statistics, dependent independent t-test and one way ANOVA.It was found that most of the teacher had positive attitude toward ICT. Almost all of them agree that ICT is most beneficial for ?students?. But they also stated that, ICT might be also beneficial for ?Education? and ?Teacher?. More than half of the attendences stated that, ICT restrict the creativity of teacher and student.This study is a part of a bigger Project which is performed by the researchers of the Dokuz Eylül University and Ege University and coordinated by Prof. Dr. Bahar Karaoğlan. The project was a nationwide project and the data collected in Bolu was analyzed in the study. Supported by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TSTRCT). This work have been carried out by the data obtained from Bolu. The researcher reached all Science and Technology teachers in Bolu and asked them to fill out the questionnaire that is developed by the Project Team.Keywords: Information and Communication Technology, Science and Technology Teachers.
