Effects on disease activities in fibromyalgia bioelements

Özet (EN)

The purpose of this study is to investigate whether bioelements in FMS are related to disease activity in patients with fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) and in the control group with noninflammatory pain by determining the level of serum bioelements, at the same time, whether the depression and anxiety state associated with FMS is proportional to the amount of serum bioelement. 50 FMS patients and 50 control patients were included in the study. The control group consisted of patients with non-inflammatory pain such as osteoarthritis, periarthritis, regional pain syndrome. All patients were evaluated according to ACR 2010 classification criteria. The Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ), hospital anxiety and depression scale (HAD) and nottingham health profile (NHP) questionnaires were administered for functional, emotional and general health evaluations of the patients. Values of whole blood count, biochemistry, blood sedimentation values, serum CRP, RF, calcium, phosphorus, parathormone, TSH and D vitamins, serum selenium, magnesium, manganese, iron, copper and zinc values were recorded in all the study subjects. Selenium, copper and zinc levels in serum of FMS patients were statistically higher than control patients (p<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference between magnesium levels of two groups (p>0.05). Although there was no statistically significant difference between iron levels, it was higher in FMS patients (p>0.05). Although there was no statistically significant difference between the manganese levels, it was lower in FMS patients (p>0.05). In our study, it was seen, in FMS patients, there is changes in trace element levels such as serum selenium, copper, iron, zinc, magnesium and manganese, widespread pain in these patients, and complaints and findings such as the decrease of physical activity levels and quality of life of the patients are not related to these changes, changes were more often associated with depression and anxiety, often associated with illness. Depression and anxiety should not be missed in FMS patients, necessary medical treatment and trace element reinforcements should be done.
