Abstract (EN)

This study investigates the contribution of the cultural activities of foundations and associations to the development of the city of İstanbul between the years 2010-2015 in the form of a field study. The motivation behind this study is the fact that İstanbul was the capital city of the Byzantine Empire and the Ottoman Empire along with its being home for many civilizations throughout history. Moreover, İstanbul is the most prominent city in Turkey concerning cultural activities, it is rich with the activities of foundations and associations and it was selected the European Capital of Culture in 2010. This study consists of four chapters including the Introduction. The first chapter provides information about the subject, aim, hypotheses, methodology and limitations of this study. The second chapter examines the development processes and the cultural activities of Foundations and Associations, focusing on the conceptual and hypothetical framework. The third chapter focuses on the methodology of the study. In the fourth and last chapter, the technical details of the interviews and analyses are presented along with the results of the analyses including the evaluations and suggestions of the results.
