Comparison of Turkey's risk outlook with selected European Union countries in the actual negotiation process

Turkey's relations with the European Union (EU) and the institutions and organizations that constitute the European Union have been and will continue to be one of the most important topics of Turkish politics, Turkish economy and Turkish foreign policy for the last 60 years. Therefore, the effects of relations with the EU on Turkish politics, economy and foreign policy are in the same way indisputable. The main subject of this study is the course of these effects in the Actual Negotiation Process, which is an important milestone in Turkey's relations with the EU and covering the period after 2007 within the full membership negotiations with the EU started in 2005. Both basic macro and micro economic data and some political evaluations made by various international institutions and organizations are considered as important indicators in understanding the economic, financial and political risks that have occurred and/or may occur for countries. In this study, the status of economic, financial and political risk indicators in Turkey's Actual Negotiation Process with the EU has been examined. For the Political Risk outlook, the Governance Indicators published by the World Bank and consisting of six components (Control of Corruption, Efficiency of Government, Political Stability and Violence / Absence of Terrorism, Regulatory Quality, Rule of Law, Freedom of Expression and Accountability) have been examined. For Economic and Financial Risk outlooks some economic indicators (Current Account Balance, Annual GDP Growth, GNP Per Capita, Consumer Price Inflation, Real Effective Exchange Rate, Real Interest Rate, Unemployment, Total Government Debt, Goods and Services Exports, Goods and Services Imports, Net Foreign Direct Investments) have been examined and comparisons were made for Turkey and for the countries that became a member of the European Union in the 5th enlargement period and mostly composed of post-Soviet Eastern European countries, and the risk outlook of Turkey in the Actual Negotiation process has been evaluated.
