Foundation of the Russian Orthodox Society of Palestine: Russia-Ukraine Church section

In this study, the emergence of the Imperial Palestine Orthodox Society, founded in Jerusalem in 1882 by the Russian Empire, the establishment stages of the Society, its scientific and educational activities, its current activities, and its relations with the Ottoman State will be evaluated. On the one hand, the relationship between scientific, cultural and educational activities and Russia's policy in this region will be examined, and on the other hand, the limits of Russia's influence in Palestine before the First World War will be discussed. The Palestinian Orthodox Society was established to protect pilgrims from Russia to the Holy Land, to meet the religious and cultural needs of the local Christian population, and to support scientific studies on the historical and cultural heritage of this region. The Society has also contributed to academic studies on Palestine and its surroundings through the scientific journals it has published. As a result, the scientific and cultural studies carried out by the society in question will be discussed. Scan compilation, comparative history, content analysis and literature scanning methods will be used in the study. What are the reasons for the establishment of the Palestinian Orthodox Community and the separation of the Ukrainian church from Russia? The choice of Palestine (Jerusalem) and Ukraine as the study areas in the thesis is due to the fact that these two geographical regions are sacred for the Orthodox Church and are areas where policies are carried out. The issue of separation of the Ukrainian church from Russia will also be discussed, based on the idea that the Ukraine policy of the Putin administration as of 2014 does not fully coincide with the Church's Ukrainian policy and even harms its goals in the region.
