Contextual index and functional glossary of Firdavsî-i̇ Rumi̇'s Kutb-nâme

Firdevsi Rumi, was an author who lived in the 15th and 16th centuries and produced approximately 40 works during his life, which spanned over 60 years. This poet, possessing a high level of linguistic awareness, is known for his Kutb-name, an important work reflecting the Turkish language of his time. It is a type of gazavâtnâme (narrative of holy wars) that recounts the Mytilene raid in an epic style and in the form of a mesnevi (narrative poem). The aim of this study is to prepare a contextual index and functional glossary of the Kutb-name mesnevi and to present its vocabulary. Based on the text prepared by İbrahim Olgun and İsmet Parmaksızoğlu, the study systematically and comprehensively analyzes the linguistic material consisting of words. The main objective of the research is to evaluate the words used in the work within their contexts and to create a contextual glossary accordingly. The study also includes; Folkloric elements such as proverbs, idioms, prayer expressions, verses and hadiths, fixed expressions, polite sayings, and archaic words have been identified and included in the dictionary along with the meaning(s) they have acquired in their own contexts. Through these identifications, the development of the word from the past to the present can be observed by examining the language of the work. Furthermore, data about the literary personality of the author can be easily obtained by examining the context of these words and word groups. Understanding Firdevsi's style and comparing his vocabulary will be facilitated by the data obtained within the scope of this study. This work, added to the LEHÇEDİZ database, aims primarily to serve as a resource for studies on Firdevsi and Kutb-nâme, subsequently to contribute to research on the history of language and the linguistic development of classical Turkish poetry, and finally, to provide a foundation for studies aimed at creating a historical dictionary of the Turkish language.
