Özet (EN)

After the invention of ?camera obscura? reflecting the three dimensional image on to two dimensional surface, the photograph, which is known as; sticking the image on the pictorial surface through the light-sensitive substances; in the one hand, because of multipile printing and mass production caused the painting to question the real meaning of itself and also caused painters to look for something else to do. In the other hand, photograph also used as an active element of painting. Right after the invention of photograph, the interaction between photograph and painting casused both to develop themselves by being rivals or being supporters to each other. Determining exactly the invisible details through photograph, brought up sharp relief questionning the reality fact and in the age of mechanical reproduction, reality developed as copying off its own image and mechanical knowledge replaced with perceiving the world with senses. The photo-realist art, arised in 60s, is one of the movements which photograph caused, and actually the thing it proposes is a different reality that transfers this new knowledge. On the years photograph was invented, portrait was the most effected form of painting. Photograph was prefered as portrait mostly on those years because having the image was easier and cheaper also. But after the emergence of photorealism, through the sensational similarity level and worthiness of manual labor, portrait was again prefered form of painting. In photorealistic painting, subject is not important however portrait is still preferential as much as landscape- or other styles. On the portrait paintings which is the main element of thesis project, artists generally used large sizes and made the little details those the human eye can not see, visible as a plan by itself. Assessing the duration from 60?s to today, we can understand that in the photorealistic movement, whatever the topic is, the main problem was reality for the artists. By using the photograph which can catch every detail that the eye can not see, artists made reference the original with the new image created on the pictorial plane.
