Review of Heft Evreng miniatures registered in Freer Art Gallery 1946.12

The manuscript analysed in this study is registered in the Freer Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C., number 46.12. The work, which is known to have been prepared for Sultan Ibrahim Mirza in Mashhad, Qazvin and Herat in the 16th century, was composed between h. 963 / A.D. 1556-65 The manuscript titled Heft Evreng, which we analysed, consists of seven masnavis named Silsiletü'z Zeheb, Yusuf and Züleyha, Subhetu'l Ebrâr, Salâmân and Absâl, Tuhfetü'l Ahrâr, Leyla and Majnun and Hiradnâme-i İskenderî, which contain 28 miniatures in total. The first part of the thesis is devoted to the Safavid period of the sixteenth century, in which the manuscript appeared, and gives general information about the cultural and artistic environment as well as the schools that influenced Safavid art. In the second chapter, Molla Jāmī's life, personality and works are briefly mentioned, and information is given about Heft Evreng and the masnavis it contains In the third part of our study, the manuscript we examined is introduced, the stories of the 28 miniatures in its content are first given, and then the constructions seen in the depiction are examined in terms of composition methods and colour usage. In the fourth chapter, the analyses are interpreted. The aim of this study is to have information about the design principles of this work, which is considered one of the magnificent manuscripts of the Safavid period.
