Examination of the level of respect for the opposite opinion of football fans and the perception of fanaticism

The aim of this research is to examine the level of respect and self-control of football fans during the match. The scale method, one of the qualitative research designs, was used in the research. The research was carried out with the relational survey model and the research data were obtained by the survey method. The sample of the research consists of 374 sports fans in Osmaniye. As a data collection tool, a questionnaire consisting of personal information in the first part, the "Sports Supporter Fanaticism Scale" (STFÖ) in the second part, and the "Respect for Opposite Opinions in Sports and Self-Control Scale" (SKGSÖ) in the third part was used. In the evaluation of the expressions in the "Sports Fanaticism Scale", 4-point Likert type (1= strongly agree – 5= strongly disagree), in the evaluation of the expressions in the "Respect for Opposite Opinion in Sports and Self-Control Scale", 5-point Likert type (1= strongly disagree – 5= totally agree) scales were used. According to the results of the research, when the t-test results are examined, there is a significant difference between the sub-dimensions of Respect for Opposition and Self-Control of the Opposition and hatred towards the opponent, and the tendency of thoughts and actions towards violence and the sub-dimensions of institutional belonging of the Football Fan Fanaticism Scale according to the gender variable of the participants. no difference was found. When the anova results of the sub-dimensions of respect for the opponent and hatred for the opponent were examined according to the variable of the participants' sporting status, there was no significant difference in the sub-dimensions of respect for the opponent and hatred towards the opponent, and there was a significant difference in the sub-dimension of thoughts and actions towards violence of the Football Fan Fanaticism Scale, according to the variable of doing sports. It was determined that there was no significant difference in the sub-dimension of corporate belonging. When the results of the one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) of the respect for the opponent and hatred towards the opponent sub-dimensions of the respect for the opposition and self-control scale according to the football teams variable of the participants are examined, there is no significant difference and it is seen that there is no significant difference according to the football team variable of the football fan fanaticism scale towards violence. When the results of the one-way analysis of variance of the sub-dimensions of action tendency and corporate belonging were examined, a significant difference was found in both sub-dimensions of the scale. When the t-test results of the respect for the opponent and hatred for the opponent sub-dimensions of the respect for the opposition and self- control scale according to the variable of having the jersey of the football team they support the participants, a significant difference was found in both sub-dimensions of the scale. When the t-test results of the thought and action tendency of the football supporter fanaticism scale towards violence and the sub-dimensions of corporate belonging were examined, a significant difference was found in both sub-dimensions of the scale, according to the variable of having the jersey of the football team that the participants support.
