Dynamism and the aesthetics of speed in futurism

In this research, it is aimed to explain the aesthetics of dynamism and speed in futurism. For this purpose, the works of futuristic painters working on photographic sequences of people on the move were examined. The work is limited to the sources written about Futurism and the works of artists working on this movement (Giacomo Balla, Umberto Boccioni, Flippo Tommaso Marinetti, Luigi Russolo, Gino Severini), the works of the artists and the researcher Anil Altındaş. In this context, books, articles, thesis and internet resources written on the subject were scanned in this context. The data obtained from the literature review were analyzed by descriptive analysis method and the result was reached. At the end of the research, it was observed that Giacomo Balla observed scenes from everyday life in his works and transferred them to the canvas in a process that can be described as "photographic". In addition, it should be noted that Marinetti, considered the pioneer of the futurism movement, pioneered the movement not only in the field of painting but also in the field of literature. Umberto Boccioni is an Italian painter and sculptor. in 1912, he published the Futurist Sculpture Manifesto. After that, he chose the sculpture and continued his artistic life in this direction. Luigi Russolo focuses on the power of machines, energy, which are prominent elements of the futurism movement, and issues such as smell and sound, which are a more abstract expression, as opposed to phenomena such as dynamism and movement; works. As for Gino Severini, it was seen that he was influenced by Seurat's "Punctuation" technique early in his art life. Gino Severini used and painted the canvas by holding it diagonally to reinforce the sense of movement by making a difference in some of his works. His use of the canvas in this way was interpreted as a rather unusual move at the time. In the works of researcher Anil Altinş, it is possible to see futuristic elements. The pictures focus on dynamic machines (train, tram) and modern urban life. It is aimed to increase the emphasis on dynamism and speed elements in the pictures by using loose and dashed lines.
