Abstract (EN)
Gerundial groups in journalese are the subject of this study. We aim to reveal usage of gerundial groups in journalese in this study titled "Gerundial Groups In Journalese". In line with this objective, we examined publications of four newspapers with different dates, namely Cumhuriyet, Fanatik, Milliyet and Sabah published in Turkey. Our study consists of three sections being introduction, analysis and conclusion. We tried to form the frame of gerund concept by including opinions of researchers about the gerundial groups, after giving information about subject, objective, scope, materials and method utilized. We gave the gerundial groups we determined in four different newspapers (Cumhuriyet, Fanatik, Milliyet, Sabah) in the sentences they are used in the introduction section. We classified the gerunds in the newspapers we analyzed under three main titles being verbal noun, verbal adjective, verbal adverb groups. In this way, we tried to reveal frequency of occurrence in terms of arguments added to gerundial groups, and –if any- different uses. In the analysis and conclusion sections, we tried to reach a conclusion by presenting occurrence frequencies of gerundial groups, we showed numeric data in the form of tables, and expressed our inferences with reference to these tables.
