Traditional and complementary medicine of pregnancyuse condition

Aim: In this study, it was aimed to determine the traditional and complementary medicine (TCM) approaches used by pregnant women. Material and Methods: This cross-sectional and descriptive study was conducted with 365 pregnant participants, whose age range was between 17 and 47 years. The data were collected with the "Socio-Demographic Information Form" and the "Condition Form for Using Traditional and Complementary Medicine of Pregnants" prepared by the researchers. Results: It was determined that 29.6% of the pregnant women used TCM for their complaints and 59.5% to maintain their health. 59.5% of pregnant women use herbal tea and 42.5% use aromatherapy oils. Herbal teas commoly used by pregnant women are 50.7% linden, 29.5% lemon, 18.9% mint, 11.5% ginger. 90.4% of the pregnant women who participated in the study stated that the TCM method they used was beneficial for them and their babies. 20.3% of the pregnant women participating in the study were questioned about the use of TCM by health professionals. The most common source of information about the TCM method used by pregnant women is neighbors and friends with 53.4%, followed by; It is followed by relatives with 18.4%, midwives and nurses with 15.9%, doctors with 8.8%, internet with 13.4% and other sources with 11.8% other. Conclusion: TCM is widely used by pregnant women for the treatment of physiological and psychological disorders experienced during pregnancy and for the continuation of the health of the mother and baby. Careful anamnesis by health professionals about the effectiveness, potential risks, possible herb-drug interactions and consequences of TCM application during pregnancy and adding appropriate ones to their care may improve the quality of care.
