Abstract (EN)

Introduction: Pregnancy depression is a very common mental disorder that affects the he-alth of both mother and child. Gestational depression is a problem that should be emphasi-zed, diagnosed and treated early, as it negatively affects the well-being of the fetüs and the mother and prepares the ground for pastpartum depression. In our study, we aim to exami-ne the prevelance of depression in pregnant women and the sociodemographic and clinical characteristics that affect it, thus determining the risk group for prennancy depression in the early period. Method: The structure of the research is a descriptive, cross-sectional study. The study was conducted between May 28, 2020 - July 1, 2020 in 6 Family Medicine Outpatient Cli-nics of the Çayeli district of the Rize city. The population of the study consisted of 186 randomly selected individuals who voluntarily accepted to participate in the study, under regular pregnancy follow-up, affiliated to Çayeli Family Health Center. Results: The average age of the pregnant women included in our study was 29.8 ± 5.3 (min: 19-max: 43) years and 19.4% of them were over 35 years old. A statistically signi-ficant difference was found between the depression status of the pregnant women included in the study according to their monthly total household income levels, employment status and smoking status(p<0.05). In addition, the percentage of those with depression among working pregnant women was significantly lower than those who did not. Also the percen-tage of those who had never smoked before with depression was significantly lower than those who used before and currently. A statistically significant difference was found between pregnant women with and without depression in terms of the number of pregnan-cies and the number of child who did not have their first pregnancy(respectively p=0.039; p=0.040). In addition, a statistically significant difference was found between the depres-sion states according to the unplanned state of pregnancy (p=0.014). Percentage of preg-nancy depression is significantly higher than who want their pregnancy among those who did not want their pregnancy. Conclusion: Of the 186 pregnant women we examined in our study; when the cut-off score is taken as 17 according to the Beck depression scale, depression was found in 17.74%. In our study, a relationship was found between the employment
