Abstract (EN)
The process of twelve years which was from the Treaty of Passarowitz signed with Austria in 1718 to the Patrona Halil Revolt in 1730 is known as the Tulip Era in Ottoman history. The era is accepted as the starting point of the westernization movement in the Ottoman Empire. The westernization movement has been affected the empire at both economic, political and social life and sense of art. It has been seen that Western art movements did not affect the main styles of the buildings too much, but they started to dominate the interior decoration of the buildings. With the westernization period, the biggest innovation seen in the decorations of the buildings is wall paintings. The first examples of the wall paintings that we encountered in the capital, Istanbul, soon began to be seen in the Anatolian borders of the empire. Notables and gentry who gained strength especially in the period of Selim III had great importance to the spread of wall paintings in Anatolia. The notables, who were very interested in the fashion and life style of Istanbul, decorated their mansions with wall paintings imitatively the capital life. In many settlements such as Bursa, İzmir, Çanakkale, Antalya, Antakya, Kayseri, Nevşehir, Yozgat, Amasya and Tokat in Anatolia, civil and religious buildings which were decorated with wall paintings has been attract attention. On the other hand, the wall paintings seen in the traditional Antep houses have a special place among the Anatolian wall painting samples in terms of their stylistic features which are close to the examples of the capital city
