Approachment to tanbur and it's teaching methods in traditional Turkish music

The tanbur, one of the most important instruments of traditional Turkish music, is a stringed instrument that is played on curtains with plectrum.The tanbur instrument, which is known to be of Central Asian origin, was widely used in the Ottoman geography.The tanbur, as used in our time, was first seen with Dimitrie Cantemir (1673–1723) and it is used for expressing turkish music sound system as a purpose. Today, although the Traditional Turkish Instrument Music has started to develop rapidly, it is noteworthy that sufficient methods and studies on the systematic approach in tanbur teaching are insufficient.It was thought that this study would contribute to the further studies on the tanbur instrument and to make the tanbur training more efficient.The history of tanbur, terminological origin, organological characteristics, general executive characteristics and approaches to teaching-learning determine the subjects of the research. The research was carried out with the interview technique from qualitative research techniques. During the research process, the tanbur artists and tanburi academicians (from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey) were interviewed.The opinions of the artists and academicians were examined with the semi-structured evaluation scale consisting of 17 questions and the data obtained from the interviews were analyzed by content analysis method. The data collected through the interview technique for the research was supported by literature review. According to the results of the research; Some of the obtained results are that the performers see the use of the method as a helpful and useful guide, mainly use the collective or individual exercise method (which is so called ''meşk'' in turkish), adopting all the elements of the tradition of this exercise method and taking advantage of them.
