Abstract (EN)

The aim of this thesis is to analyze the physical transformations that have occurred within a historic urban pattern—characterized by a deep-rooted past and the coexistence of multiple civilizations—across specific time periods, employing various morphological methods and techniques. The study examines the similarities and differences between urban pattern forms to assess whether the creation of a new urban form is necessary. In order to investigate a settlement that embodies the spatial traces of different cultures and exhibits strong historical continuity, the district of Gelibolu, located in the province of Çanakkale, was selected as the research area. The research methodology consists of four stages. In the first stage, the study area and sample zones were identified using the morphological zoning method. In the second stage, temporal changes within the selected sample zones were comparatively analyzed through the Space Syntax and Fractal Geometry methods. In the third stage, the obtained data were evaluated based on spatial integration, synergy, intelligibility, and complexity indicators. In the final stage, the findings were interpreted, and conclusions and recommendations were developed. The analyses identified three distinct pattern types: the Church and its surroundings in Camikebir Neighborhood, Gazi Süleyman Paşa Mosque and its surroundings in its surroundings in Camikebir Neighborhood, and the Synagogue and its surroundings in Yazıcızade Neighborhood. The findings reveal significant changes in the urban pattern since 1939, including the disappearance of Jewish and Christian neighborhoods and the transformation of Muslim neighborhoods. Traditional patterns around the Church and Synagogue have largely vanished, with these areas opened to new developments. Gazi Süleyman Paşa Mosque and its surroundings have maintained spatial continuity and emerged as the most stable pattern throughout the historical process.
