Measurements on heads and faces of a group of young adults

Antropometric data is required in determining the malnutritions, craniofacial anomalies and malformations and in the fields of plastic surgery, dentistry, sports and in designing the orthesis like spectacles and hearing devices. There have been limited number of studies in the anthropometry, in Turkey. And we don?t know a study about our region. The aim of this study was to determine the anthropometric measurements on the heads and faces of a group of young adults in the Manisa region and to determine correlations among some of the measurements. Furthermore, it was also aimed to show the differences of the ratios among the two genders. 260 volunteer university students attended to the study (130 women and 130 men). People who had traumas or operations on their heads or faces was not included in the study. In this study, 46 single and 43 paired linear measurements consisted of 11 single linear head measurements, 15 single and 9 paired linear face measurements, 2 single and 9 paired orbita measurements, 8 single and 6 paired linear nose measurements, 10 single and 4 paired linear mouth and lip measurements, 15 paired linear ear measurements were used. 40 points were used during these measurements. Statistically significant positive correlations were found among the nose height and some of the head heights and the nose width and face width of men and women. The mean values of measurements were usually higher in men than in women. Only the mean values of orbital height and the upper and lower vermilion height were higher in women than in men.
