The role of emotional intelligence in career planning of Youth and Sports Provincial Directorate staff

The present study is to investigate the relationship between career planning and emotional intelligence. Questionnaire technique was used as data collection method in the research. Career Management Scale and Emotional Intelligence Scale were used in the created questionnaire. The data collected from 185 people working in the Antalya Youth and Sports Provincial Directorate, who were selected by the convenience sampling method in promotion status between July and October in 2020. The obtained data were analyzed and evaluated in the SPSS statistics software. With the normal distribution of skewness and kurtosis values in the statistics of the Career Management Scale and Emotional Intelligence Scale, T-test was used in paired groups, One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used to compare more than two variables, and the Post Hoc Tukey HSD test was used to determine which groups the differences originated from. By applying Pearson Correlation analysis, the relationship between Career Management and Emotional Intelligence was tried to be determined. As a result of the research, a positive statistically significant but weak relationship was found between emotional intelligence level and its sub-dimensions and career management. In addition, it has been found that women have higher emotional intelligence levels than men and married people than singles. It is one of the results of the study that the higher the education level, the higher the emotional intelligence level. It is important for employees and managers to consider the effects of the emotional intelligence factor in career management, planning and development processes.
