Özet (EN)
Introduction and aim: male and female sex are more comprehensive concepts than physiological differences in diagnosis and treatment of patients. The aim of this study is to evaluate biologically the factors contributing to the health or well-being of women and men, the relationship between sex and the factors affecting patient satisfaction and satisfaction in the perspective of general surgery as well as to reveal the reflection of gender definition in all stages of health care. Material and Method: This study was designed as a prospective follow-up study. May March 1, 2019 to May 30, 2019, 415 patients operated in the Department of General Surgery (Patients with inguinal hernia and breast diseases were excluded from the study), 362 of which were included in the study. The gender and satisfaction levels of the patients, early postop results and socio-demographic characteristics of the patients were compared. Results: 52.5% (190 people) of the 362 patients included in the study were female, while 47.5% were male. The rate of satisfaction in women was 61.6%, while in men it was 86%. Although female patients had higher rates of pain and higher complication rates, satisfaction rates were not affected. It was observed that having female sex alone was the most important factor that lowered the level of satisfaction. Conclusion: The fact that female and male sex as a whole are treated with physiological and psychological aspects rather than differences in chromosomal size is becoming more important every day. It is an undeniable fact that in many areas, from drug development to surgical sciences, women are different from men and their variables that need to be considered are of critical importance in terms of the effectiveness and quality of health care. Keywords: Gender, Satisfaction, Surgery.
