The criteria that are based by the general high school students who are making occupational choice

Aim of the study is to put which factors are based by students of general high school who are making occupational choice and to state analytically whether selected occupation can provide these factors which are accepted base by students. Also, it was statistically expressed whether or not the factors which are took into account by students as to make occupational choice indicate variability by sex and branch of the students in this study. Senior class students of general high school at Ümraniye district in Anatolia side of ?stanbul constitute mass (universe). It was searched what factors on ocupational choice are based by young people at present upon the students who are selected with one stage sampling method from the universe. Questionnaire method was used in research. Data compiled from answers the questions by purposed built were entered to SPSS package program. Some findings were obtained with One way ANOVA and Paired Smaple t Test. The resuls of the analysis show that students generally don?t take career guidance study on occupational choice, don?t attend scientific test/exam for determination of their career intrests/skills, also aren?t oriented by their parents and circle of teachers, relatives, friends, etc, on career preference. The factors effecting occupational choice for students, which are agreeably to our country job-conditions, are listed in order as job-security, social security conditions, job getting easily and remunerative salary. However, these factors couldn?t be converted into opportunities provided by preferred job. In order to be made a proper ocupational choice, students should consider their interest and their skils, enclosed herein, they should take support from expert at authorized organizations. Students can give better decision on occupational choice by holding intercourse with someone working at the job which they think to prefer. Furthermore, Students should be informed by conducting sociological analysis each year and ultimate decision on occupational choice should be given by student.
