Financial literacy in general and Islamic financial literacy: a study in Adana province

From a financial point of view, literacy, money and money markets to have information and comments, to have savings and even the right place and time to invest in situations such as; ''Islamic financial literacy '' is the first of all to have an Islamic faith, to sustain its life on this belief, and also to observe Islamic rules in money and all kinds of material works and transactions and to act according to those rules; it can also be considered as an ability to have knowledge and even use Islamic financial concepts. Islamic finance market, especially in the last decade in Turkey and further ahead is a system were implemented worldwide, is a system where there are intermediaries providing infrastructure to the money markets to Islamic rules and conditions by people who want to do business and operations and institutions. This system, which continues to develop rapidly, is of particular interest to Islamic countries and can be considered as an issue worthy of research in this context. Many provinces in Turkey, especially in universities and Islamic financial been studied in several studies on financial literacy concepts and some people knowledge, behaviors, attitudes have been investigated in financial size. In general, the level of financial literacy was found to be average and it was observed that male students or participants had a higher level of knowledge relative to women. These findings constitute a source that can be seen and used as information/data especially by individuals and institutions wishing to target certain audiences. There are studies on financial literacy around the world, among which an important study has been implemented by OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) on citizens participating in 12 countries and observed financial information, financial behavior and financial attitudes. In this study, a survey consisting of participants from different age and occupational groups living in Adana was conducted and the findings were examined. The period in which the survey was conducted was between March 2019 and May 2019. According to the results of the study, although the financial products such as credit / debit card and deposit account, which are the financial products that the participants frequently use financial information in general, are higher, the number of female participants is higher and the level of knowledge of male participants is higher. In addition, the individuals involved in the survey first consult their environment and bank personnel about financial information. The study also examined the issue of Islamic financial literacy, and the overall level of Islamic financial literacy among participants was found to be extremely low. Participants' perception of the belief in interest was determined that interest was not forbidden. In the study, it was observed that there was a significant difference between the gender factor and the questions asked in the questionnaire, while there was no significant difference between the questions of profession and age and the questions of the questionnaire.
