Abstract (EN)

Lower extremity coronal plane angulations are common in children. Studies show that bone metabolism parameters such as vitamin D, calcium (Ca), parathyroid hormone (PTH), magnesium (Mg) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) should be questioned together with radiography when determining the diagnosis and treatment method in children with genu varum or valgus. The aim of this thesis is to investigate the relationship between pediatric patients with genu varum or genu valgum deformity and bone metabolism parameters. Forty-five patients who were admitted to the orthopedic outpatient clinic with the diagnosis of genu varum and genu valgum and whose parameters such as vitamin D, Ca, PTH, Mg and ALP were studied were included in the study. For this purpose, patient files, X-RAY graphs in the picture archiving communication systems (PACS), orthoroentgenograms were used. In the analysis of the data, Chi-square analysis, Shapiro-Wilk test, Student t test, Pearson correlation analysis were used. SPSS 22 package program was used in the analysis of the data. The significance value was taken as p< 0.05. While 44 (97.8%) of the patients are bilateral, only one (2.2%) is unilateral. Genu varum was observed in 17 (85%) of the girls and 19 (76%) of the boys. The mean age of those diagnosed with genu varum (4.3 ± 4.8) was found to be significantly lower than the average age of patients diagnosed with genu valgum (11.9 ± 4.1) (p <0.001). Ca (mg / dl) among disease diagnoses, It was determined that there was no significant difference in terms of vitamin D (mcg/L), PTH (pg / mL), ALP (U / L) and Mg (mg / dl) (p> 0.05) Ca (mg / dl) and PTH (pg / mL) was found to be negatively significant. A significant positive correlation was found between PTH (pg / mL) and ALP (U / L). Ca value of 44 (97.8%) patients, vitamin D value of 23 (51.1%), PTH value of 33 (73.3%), ALP value of 2 (4.4%) and The Mg values of 43 (95.6%) were found to be normal. As a result; Significant changes in bone metabolism parameters were found in most pediatric patients with genu varum or genu valgum deformity. We can say that especially ALP can be used as a screening test in the upcoming years. We recommend that bone metabolism parameters should be questioned when evaluating patients with genu varum or genu valgum deformity. Keywords: Genu varum, Genu valgum, Bone metabolism parameters
