Examination of the relationship between pain, fear of movement and fall in geriatric patients

The latest news can help following this process due to the increase in human life expectancy began to gain importance. In this study, age-related pain perception in Turkey and in the world, motion and relationships that make up the fall and was starting to uncover the relationship forward. The person who applied to the Burdur State Hospital Physical Therapy Unit between March 2019 and September 2019 was not included in the random sample, but 65 years of age and over, on the basis of volunteering. The patients who lived in the study were evaluated in terms of fear of falling (Tinetti Fall Effect Scale, Visual Analogue Scale), fear of movement (Tampa Kinesophobia Scale), pain (Pain Assessment Verbal Category Scale). In addition, the socio-demographic characteristics as well as the use of assistive walking devices, the number of falls in the last year, the diagnosed diseases, and the drugs with which it is continuous were questioned. SPSS 10.0 statistics program was used in the analysis obtained in the study. Descriptive statistics were used for n and%. The distributions of Tampa Kinesophobia Scale, Tinetti Fall Effect Scale, Visual Analogue Scale and Pain Assessment Verbal Category Scale were tested with Kolmogorov-Smirnov Test. It was determined that the data fit the normal distribution. Student t test and ANOVA test were performed for suitable places. Tukey method was used for the posthoc test. The relationship between the scales was tested with the Pearson Correlation method. When the risk factors we evaluated were compared in terms of age, gender, marital status, educational status, occupation, presence of surgery and chronic diseases, the presence of drugs used continuously and the affected area, the relationship between them was statistically insignificant (p> 0.05). In the statistical analysis of the gender variable, the difference between the Visual Analogue Scale variable was found to be statistically significant (p <0.05). When the correlations of the scales were evaluated, the relationship between the Tampa Kinesophobia Scale and the Tınetti Impact of Fall Scale scores was found to be positive (+0.704). In addition, the correlation between the Visual Analogue Scale and the Pain Assessment Verbal Category Scale score was found to be positive (+0.535) in the evaluation of correlation. According to the results of our study, it was found that there was a relationship between fear of movement and fear of falling, and a relationship between pain assessment and fear of falling. In patients over 65 years of age, inactivity, pain and fear of falling are important problems, but they also affect daily living activities negatively.
