Abstract (EN)

Within this study, the biological activities and botanical origins of propolis samples collected from 15 localities in the Gevaş district of Van province were investigated. As a result of microscopic analysis, pollen belonging to 29 families, Amaranthaceae, Anacardiaceae, Apiaceae, Asteraceae, Boraginaceae, Brassicaceae, Campanulaceae, Caprifoliaceae, Caryophyllaceae, Elaeagnaceae, Fabaceae, Fagaceae, Hypericaceae, Juglandaceae, Lamiaceae, Malvaceae, Papaveraceae, Plantaginaceae, Poaceae, Ranunculaceae, Resedaceae, Rosaceae, Rubiaceae, Rutaceae, Salicaceae, Sapindaceae, Scrophulariaceae, Solanaceae and Urticaceae were detected in the propolis of Gevaş region. ORAC, FRAP, DPPH, iron chelating activity and Folin-Ciocalteu (FCR) methods were used to determine the antioxidant capacity of propolis collected in the study area. In all methods, the highest antioxidant value was determined in location-7 and the lowest value in location-2. Total phenolic content (FCR) 28±2-266±13 mg Gallic acid equivalent/g extract, Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) 2939±204-12967±304 µmol Trolox equivalent/g extract, Ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) 667 ±33-5129±18 µ mol Fe 2+ /g extract, DPPH radical scavenging activity 127±5-11±2 µg extract /ml and Metal chelating activity 358±11-85±4 µg extract /ml values were determined. When all the results were evaluated together, it was seen that the results were generally compatible with the total phenolic content of the extracts. According to the results obtained, it will be promising for future studies on the botanical origin and antioxidant properties of propolis.
