Giorgio Agamben: An examination on the concepts of state of exception and sovereignty

Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted the relationship between 'state of exception' and 'sovereignty' terms which are of capital importance in the political philosophy of Giorgio Agamben. Agamben have tried to understand historical background of Western politics and law tradition which is obtaining from Ancient Greece to today, and main elements and aporetic situations of sovereignty's inherent property, via these terms. Also Agamben have tried to analyse dilemmas and crisises of basic concepts such as modern democracy, law, and civil liberty. Agamben's relationship with current tradition, his contributions to his articulated discussions, context and basis of self arguments are going to be major themes in this study. Also, Agamben's conceptualisations such as biopolitics, necropolitics, bare life, homo sacer, muselman; perspective of relationship between democracy and totalitarianism; critiques directed to some philosophers like Foucault and Arendt; ethical and political analysis of the camp as an exceptional space, and opportunity of an alternative politics will be discourced and in conjuction with this, understanding and analysing today's socio-political cases is targeted in this study.
