Effects of laziness and social capital on creativity and innovation in entrepreneurship

Abstract (EN)
Entrepreneurship has come into prominence as the fourth factor of production as traditional economic theories have become inadequate to explain economic events and phenomena. This study investigates the effects of social capital and laziness dispositions of entrepreneurs on creative thinking disposition and innovation. Despite entrepreneurship and innovation concepts are studied along often in the literature, the concept of creativity and its relationship are mostly handled by disciplines as psychology, behavior, and educational sciences. Social capital, entrepreneurship ecosystem and innovation systems overlap at many points, by considering this fact, the dissertation focuses on the relationships between relevant variables. This study also originally questioning and addressing the effects of the concept of laziness, which are studied less in literature, and social capital, which complement other forms of capital, on creativity and innovation. In this context, the dissertation includes the results of the quantitative (N = 511) and qualitative studies (N = 25) conducted with three newly developed scales as well as literature review and past research on the aforementioned concepts. According to the quantitative research (survey) result, there is a positive and medium-level significant relationship between social capital and creative thinking disposition, while there is a low-level and negative relationship between laziness and creative thinking. Besides, according to the patent application / property, there is a significant difference between the creative thinking disposition and social capital levels of the entrepreneurs, where no difference was observed in terms of their laziness dispositions. The qualitative research (interview) findings carried out to obtain in-depth information about the research subject, along with coincide with the survey results, are more positive about the existence of the laziness-creativity relationship. Based on these findings, the dissertation concludes with discussing the results and giving recommendations.
