Giritli Sırrı Pasha?s contributions to Turkish thought the translation of his work called Mi?yârü?l-Makâl and his logical understanding

The subject of this survey is to translate Cretan Sırrı Pasha`s, whose real name is Selim Sırrı Pasha or Muhammed Sırrı Pasha, work called Mi?yâr?ül-Makâl and to make an assessment of it. Cretan Sırrı Pasha completed his work Mi?yâr?ül-Makâl writing a paragraph in Arabic firstly, then translating it into Ottoman Turkish. Our aim is to present the work into the academic life translating it into Turkish without changing the paragraphs too much which were written in Ottoman Turkish and to examine it according to classical logic discipline. The work, when we take Sırrı Pasha?s age into consideration, handles quite similar subjects. One of the distinction of him from his coevals is his explaining some tips more clearly than the others. The contribution of the work to present-day Turkish Thinking is from this aspect : This text, devoted to Turkish students, a good beginning for the ones who want to start reading traditional Arabic logic writings. Because basic Arabic technical terms are both given in Ottoman Turkish and the opportunity to think of them in Turkish is supplied. It is seen that in his work, the writer pursues especially a pedagogical goal. So the work from this aspect, is quite useful both in terms of writing Turkish Logic teaching books and to analyze Arabic Logic works written in an intense language. Sırrı Pasha is a writer who continued the tradition of Farabi aand İbni Sina. He has a knowledge of logic discipline as much as Ahmet Cevdet Pasha who is another logic writer of his period.
