Özet (EN)

Today, technological improvements enable to emerge advanced software for engineering and design applications. These software, which are also known as Computer Aided Design (CAD) systems, is commonly used by a wide range of industries. There are also several kinds of software intended to be used for textile and clothing design. Modern CAD systems can be used in each step of design and manufacturing processes, such as yarn, fabric and printing design, even for marketing. Technical drawings, garment surface design, pattern making and real-time 3D representation of clothing products can be done by these systems. 3D software enables to view the designed two dimensional garments assembled and draped on a personalised virtual mannequin. The mannequin can be viewed in different angles. By this way designer can verify fit and sewing problems. One of the main advantages of 3D CAD systems is that the designed pattern can be applied on a standard mannequin or selected or created models by the user. In the first part of this thesis CAD software developed for animation and industrial applications were shortly presented. Selected CAD systems and software which are widely used by textile and fashion industry were reviewed. Traditional and computer aided design methods are compared. For this aim female and male models having different sizes were selected and five different garments were designed by software. 2D and 3D simulations of the designed garments were prepared and compared by the real prototypes. Fit comparison in accordance with pattern and body shape of the real garments and virtual prototypes was made. In addition to the virtual comparison, traditional design and production techniques and CAD were compared based on production time, number of production steps and cost. The effects of CAD systems on apparel design cycle from conceptual design up to finished products was tried to examine.
