A qualitative research to understand the impact of conditional cash transfer for education program on migrant children

The migrant population of Turkey, which has been receiving and emigrating continuously throughout history, has continued to increase every year, especially after the civil war in Syria in 2011. There are nearly four million registered Syrian migrants in Turkey. Children are the most vulnerable among migrants. Several educational activities have been planned and implemented, especially for Syrian migrant children whose access to education has become limited after the migration process. One of these applications is the Conditional Cash Transfer for Education (CCTE). CCTE program which has been implemented for the Turkish population since 2003, was decided to include migrant children in 2017. CCTE program has two components, a cash component, and a child protection component. Thus, while education aid is provided to immigrant children who attend school regularly, child protection teams visit the homes of children whose aid has been stopped due to absenteeism, and a series of social activities are carried out. This thesis work aims to understand the direct or indirect effects of the CCTE which was implemented on Syrian migrant children, through qualitative research method.
