Examining the relationship between experiencing emotional abuse and psychological resilience in migrant children

This study was conducted to evaluate the relationship between migrant children's experiences of emotional abuseand their psychological resilience. Research data The research data was collected between January 25, 2025, and June 25, 2025, in six schools affiliated with the Gaziantep Provincial Directorate of National Education. The sample for the study consisted of 570 students who volunteered to participate in the study and whose parents gave permission. The data for the study were collected using the "Data Collection Form," the "Emotional Abuse Scale (EAS)," and the "Child and Adolescent Psychological Resilience Scale (CAPRS-12)." The research data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics 20 software, and a statistical significance threshold of p<0.05 was accepted for all tests performed. The average age of the students included in the research was determined as 13.44±1.02. The mean total score for students on the EAS was 35.45±22.13, and the mean total score on the CAPRS-12 was 44.77±8.88. When the findings of the studywere examined, the EAS scores of students whose fathers did not work weresignificantly higher than those of students whose fathers worked. The EAS scores of students whose income was less than their expenseswere significantly higher than those whose income was equal to their expenses. The CAPRS-12 scores of female studentswere calculated to be significantly higher than those of male students.The students' total EAS score was 35.45, with verbal abuse being the highest in the sub-dimensions; the total CAPRS-12 score was 44.77. In addition, a negative and significant relationship was found between all sub-dimensions of EAS and CAPRS-12; excessiveexpectations are weak, while others are moderate. The results of this study showed that as the level of emotional abuse increased among immigrantchildren, their psychological resiliencedecreased. Migrant children may experience interruptions in their education and cultural adaptation issues; therefore, inclusive education and psychosocial support are recommended.
