Participation of immigrants in working life: Case of Syrian migrants

Migration is one of the cases that play an important role in shaping world history. The Syrian crisis with the Arab Spring movement followed by the Syrian migration; Turkey has created in terms of socio-economic impacts. Syria after the migration, entry of immigrants into the labor market in order to sustain their lives in Turkey has become inevitable. This situation has brought Turkey to the effects of the labor market. In this study, first of all, Syria is demonstrated effects of immigration on the economy of Turkey. The impact of migrants on the labor market is both Turkish and Syrian workers, as well as Turkish and Syrian employers; In our country's economy, there are many positive and negative factors. In our study, we emphasized the issue; The aim of this study is to find out how Syrian migrant workers faced in the process of finding employment in the context of temporary protection, how the migrants participated in working life, the role of the intermediary institution / organization or persons in organizing the employment process. Based on these problems, interview questions were asked in semi-structured form, separately for workers and employers. A total of 30 Syrian migrants, 17 of whom were workers and 13 employers, participated in the interviews held in the İskenderun district of Hatay. In the interviews, the voice recorder was kept and then converted to writing. Additional notes were also made during the interviews. In the first part of our research, the conceptual framework of migration is defined. Descriptions of migration theories, types and effects of migration on the labor market have been made. When we consider the subject in terms of literature, it has been examined within the scope of the article but has not found the value of the subject within the thesis. In the second part, the effects of the Arab Spring movement, the Syrian crisis, statistical information on immigrants and the legal status of immigrants were defined. In the third chapter, the findings obtained from interviews prepared for the participation of migrants in the labor market are shared. It was observed that the migrants interviewed in the study covered the working age population and the level of education of the migrants was low. Migrants have often found work through professional knowledge and experience as they are uneducated. The participation of migrants in the labor market is often supported by their spouses, friends, friends and intermediaries. Migrants in the labor market; problems due to material issues, work discontinuity, exclusion-discrimination and working load. The involvement of migrants in the market and the process they are going through following the process is important for their integration into the labor market. Research result of Syrian immigrants, where you have to work in order to sustain their lives in Turkey, the problems they face in the labor market, difficulties, obstacles, are discussed conveniences; The situations faced by Syrian migrant workers in the process of employment are examined. Considering the thesis and article studies in the literature; Due to the scarcity of information about the situation of migrants in the market and in the aftermath, creating a unique thesis on this issue will contribute to the literature in a positive way.
