Psychological effects of migration

Migrations of human groups have taken place since the beginning of time and have been recorded in ancient texts. Hoping for security, shelter, food, arable land and freedom people have sought to escape from hunger, torture and mental pressure. Human beings who migrate or relocate also change many of the established constituents in themselves. It is not only friends, families and the environment that a person loses with relocation, but also deep bonds correlated with him/her for decades. Negative situations during the process have devastating effects on immigrants. The aim of this study is to investigate these devastating psychological effects that emerge during the migration process. In this study, the concept of migration will be discussed first. Then the causes of migration, differences between immigrant and refugee concepts, and Turkey's current situation regarding migration will be discussed. Later, under the title of psychologically influencing items, demographic characteristics of people, culture and some other important factors will be discussed. In the title of psychological problems created by migration, important psychological problems affecting people, especially trauma, PTSD and depression, will be discussed. In the title of the related research, which is the last part, some case studies conducted domestically and abroad will be discussed in detail. The aim of this thesis is to create a more comprehensive Turkish text that will contribute to the detection of both problems and solutions, by explaining in detail the psychological disorders that arise as a result of the problems experienced.
