Abstract (EN)
Visual Arts take an important place in the academic and social development of child. Children who can not express themselves orally can prefer showing emotions by using lines. Mathematics therefore, is one of the expressing ways of themselves a way of expressing themselves. This research starts with the belief that art and mathematics have relationships and the research, therefore, aims to state the students? differences related to visual perception by using mathematics.Research sample consists of 5th grade students who go to private school in Ankara during 2008 ? 2009 and 2009 ? 2010 education years.Students in the sample were made to draw two free pictures during two different; first one was independent of math lectures and the other one was right after mathematic lecture. It was investigated that whether there was an influence of mathematics on the pictures which were made after mathematics lecture or not. In order to determine the influence of mathematics ?Key to Holistic Rating Picture Evaluation? scale was used and it was established was established by the researcher. Beyond that an expert opinion was taken for the validity and reliability of the scale.Students? attitudes toward art education were determined via ?Attitudes toward Art Education? scale that was established by the researcher. Reliability and validity of the scale were measured with SPSS 13.0 statistical program. This scale aims to differentiate whether mathematics have any influence on students? pictures after mathematics lecture or not.Results of the analysis suggested that 13 of students have neutral attitudes toward art education, while 40 of the students have positive attitudes. None of the students in the sample have negative attitudes. In the 17 of the pictures which were made right after the mathematics lecture displayed hat there was an influence of mathematics on the images an influence of mathematics was found. All of these 17 students were also in the sample that has positive attitudes toward art education.As a result, the students who have positive attitude towards art education are more successful in associating mathematics and art education than the ones who have neutral attitude.Key words: art education, mathematics, attitudes, visual perception.
