Evaluati̇ng teacher's vi̇ews on the level of taki̇ng advantage of the museum i̇n the vi̇sual arts lesson (Diyarbakır province)

The aim of this research is to evaluate teacher's views on the level of taking advantage of the museums in the visual arts lesson. In line with this general purpose ,secondary school visual arts teachers' views on the importance of using museums for art education, the current situation regarding the use of museums for art education and reasons for not using the museums for arts education; gender, age, education level, the most recent graduation from higher education institutions and if there is a significant difference according to the length of service in the profession are tried to be determined. Study group of the research includes 118 visual arts teachers working in 97 secondary schools under MEB (National Education Ministry) in the central districts of Diyarbakır (Bağlar, Kayapınar, Sur, Yenişehir) during 2013-2014 Academic Year Spring Term. The datas in the research were obtained with the data collection tool previously developed and applied by Mercin (2002). The survey results obtained from the research have been analyzed with SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) 16.0 programme and have been evaluated through benefiting from t-Test, variance analysis (ANOVA), standard deviation and the arithmetical averages. The results obtained for sub-goals of the research are summarized as follows: • No statistically significant difference has been found between the sizes of the data collecting device titled ' Opinions on the Importance of Using Museums With the Aim of Art(Painting) Education' and the teachers' gender, age, education level and the most recent graduation from higher education institutions. • No statistically significant difference has been found between the sizes of the data collecting device titled 'Opinions on the Current Situation Regarding the Use of Museums With the Aim of Art(Painting) Education' and the teachers' gender, age, education level, the most recent graduation from higher education institutions and the length of service in the profession. • No statistically significant difference has been found between the sizes of the data collecting device titled 'Opinions on Not Using Museums With the Aim of Art(Painting) Education'and the teachers' gender, age, education level and the most recent graduation from higher education institutions. • Sizes of the data collecting device titled ' Regarding the Importance of Using Museums With the Aim of Art(Painting) Education' and 'Regarding the Importance of Not Using Museums With the Aim of Art(Painting) Education' ,and teachers' service time in their profession have been observed as statistically and significantly different In line with the results above, the following remarkable results have been reached as well: • Most of the secondary school teachers ( : 4.03) thought museums are important in terms of arts education. • It's observed that most of the 118 teachers (% 80,5) having participated in the research take their students to the museums. • Teachers referred mostly to improper education programs, secondly lack of sufficient experience and thirdly the lack of people who can guide them in museums or lack of sufficient time, as the justification for not using museums. The following suggestions are given in line with the results above:. • In order to use museums effectively in terms of education practically in schools lessons can be organized in a curriculum that can be processed in a museum. • Based on the lack of staff to guide or lack of sufficient time in museums, YÖK (Higher Education Committee) can increase the number of the departments giving museum education to increase the number of trained staff in the field of museum education. • MEB (National Education Ministry), can provide the necessary financial support to museums and schools in order to use museums for educational purposes more effectively.
