Abstract (EN)

Various techniques and materials can be used to fulfill the educational aims in visual arts class. However, inappropriate materials and techniques depending on the age group, and the development can affect students attitude to visual arts class negatively.In this research it was aimed to determine the preferences of class teachers while using techniques and materials in visual arts course and the difficulties they face. This research was made with the data obtained from 1st. 2nd. And 3rd grade classroom teachers in 32 primary schools in Bolu Province within 2010-2011 Academic year. The data was obtained with a questionnaire developed by the researcher and scanning model was used. The findings was evaluated by SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) descriptive statistical methods like frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation t- test and Anova.In the end of the research it was understood that clasroom teachers prefer one sided techniques like drawing and painting. It was determined that class teachers should be informed about the materials and techniques appropriate to the age level and individual differences of students to fulfill the educational aims of the course. It was also stated that they nedd in-service training and resource books about the difficulties they have been facing. Moreover, it was found out that teachers are having problems about the curriculum, physical atmosphere of the classroom and socio- economic features of the students and all these issues affect the use of materials and techniques in visual arts class.
