Curtain image in visual art

Aim of this thesis is to shed light on which meanings are used for curtain in the art and image of curtain. Researching was carried out on the image of curtain which is used nowadays in works of art, curtain uses daily life and is seen in art history and findings which are obtained from these studies are listed. According to these findings, curtain firstly is considered inside art history, then probable meanings in art, after then utilization of modern art. In conclusion, the curtain is examined both an image and a concept with using in artistic practices under the title of thesis. Moving images are there in the shade of theatre. The relationship between surface provides existing of shadow-show, also called shadow-show screen and curtain was researched. Light is necessity for arising these images. In this way, effect of relationship between shade and curtain is there in Plato's Cave Allegory. In this allegory, it is emphasized that surface which falls the shades is a curtain. Thereafter it is discussed Camera Obscure's curtain, photograph's position as a curtain and the reflection of the cinema on the curtain.Images which are sequential seem as a whole in the cinema curtain, it facilitates movement to the curtain. Also, it is worked how the meaning of curtain as taking cover, revealing and covering is used. These inquisitions are treated in the artistic practices of this thesis.
