Gülşehir Karavezir (Seyyid Mehmed Paşa) Mosque handling decorations

XVIII – XIX. The 21st century universally reflects a period in which social, political, cultural, economic and technical developments took place. This change has spread among societies and states around the world and has led to a radical change depending on tradition. The Ottoman Empire, which found its place in this timeline, did not turn its back on the changing world and first turned its face to the west for improvements in the military order. This change, influenced by the West, which started on the military platform, has also shown its impact especially in art and architecture. Wall paintings made in the XVIII-XIX centuries constitute the most important works of Ottoman hand-drawn art, which developed and changed with the influence of the West. One of these works is the Karavezir (Seyyid Mehmed Pasha) Mosque. Karavezir Seyyid Mehmed Pasha Mosque, located in Gülşehir district of Nevşehir, is located in Cumhuriyet Square. Karavezir Mosque was built by Silahtar Karavezir Seyyid Mehmed Pasha, one of the grand viziers of Abdulhamid I, between 1778 and 1779. The mosque, which reflects the Late Ottoman architecture, has a single dome and a square plan. The decorations generally consist of stylized flowers, tulip motifs, vases, ivy and medallion motifs. The decorations are concentrated on the dome of the narthex, the section in front of the mihrab, the pulpit and the window pediments. In this research, it is aimed to examine the historical background of the Karavezir Seyyid Mehmed Pasha Mosque and to introduce the interior and exterior decorations in detail with photographs and drawings. Although the mosque is rich in terms of decoration, one of the purposes of planning this research is that there are limited resources on this subject and the photographs and drawings in these resources are not included.
