Customs Union's advanteges and disedventeges for turkey and impact for sector of textile

This thesis analyses costs and benefits of the Customs Union for Turkey by making comparison between the pre- and the post-Customs Union periods. The Customs Union seems at the beginning to have led to deterioration of Turkey's terms of trade. However, this situation arises to a great extent from the fact that the EU and Turkey did not reduce customs tariffs simultaneously. Furthermore, the Customs Union has had positive effects on Turkish economy like technological developments, quality increase in production, increase in productivity, increase in investment and decrease in unemployment rate. The Customs Union is the cornerstone on the way towards EU membership.
