Effects of silver nano particles on microbial load in cow?s milk and goat?s milk

Stopping and reducing microorganism development in milk is the most important issue for storage and cold chain applications. With this study we illustrated that usage of nano-silver might be useful in providing better hygiene and also may increase the quality of milk as a product. The first study has measured affects of 0-100-200 V electricity applied wires (Ag0, Ag100 ve Ag200), different time and heat levels on the total quantity of T.A.M.B. Different times included 1 second, 30 seconds, 10 minutes, 1 hour, 10 hours, and different temperatures used were 10 ºC, 18 ºC, 22 ºC degrees. In the second study, 100V (Ag100) wire, 22 ºC heat and 1 hour waiting time were used. This study investigated the effects of nano silver particles on the total quantity of T.A.M.B, Yeast and Mould, Coliforms and E. coli and S. aureus in cow and goat milk samples. In the first study, temperature, time and wire voltage were statistically important (P<0.01) for the quantity (log kob/mL) of T.A.M.B. The second study revealed that differences between the raw cow milk which waited 1 hour in 22 ºC and the wire (Ag100) applied cow milk that waited 1 hour in 22 ºC were significant (P<0.05). In goat milk samples, these differences were significant for E. coli (P<0.05) but it is nonsignificantly different for T.A.M.B and the others (P>0.05). Nano silver particles coated wires were effective on stopping and reducing the microbial load, especially in cow milk.
