Determination of common idioms in Southwest (Oguz) dialects

The idioms, as the means created by people in order to establish an effective expression,have a great value in terms of determining the vocabulary of Turkish Language.In this study,we examined the idioms of Southwest/Oguz Group Turkish dialects by looking from the point of association. Our study consists of five parts. In the first part,the historical development and the contemporary situation of these relevant dialects are presented;in the second part,phonetic and formal features of these dialects are presented comparatively;in the third part,the definition of idiom,features and the position of the idioms in terms of phraseology are presented.In the fourth part of the thesis;the idioms which are common among these dialects are presented as a chart.While deciding on the idioms which are common,the condition of at least one component formal similarity and the restriction in the context of source are taken into consideration. In the fifth part of this study, similar idioms of the dialects are compared in groups of two-three and the number of similarities between Turkey Turkish and Azerbaijan Turkish is confirmed as the highest among Southwest/Oguz group Turkish dialects according to numeric data. In this comparison,second highest number of similar idioms belong to Turkey Turkish and Turkmenistan Turkish comparison and the next highest number of similar idioms belong to Azerbaijan Turkish and Turkmenistan Turkish comparison.The number of similar idioms in Gagauzian Turkish dialect compared to the other dialects is confirmed as low because of insufficient data of this dialect. In order to enrich Turkish dialects vocabulary, comparative studies should be handled.We hope that our study will make a great contribution to the studies in this field.
