Abstract (EN)
This report which investigates the relation between architecture and sculpture in the context of museum has been framed according to the artistic production realized within the scope of proficiency in art graduation work. Today, it is seen that architecture models of museums, with their sculptural designs, have become independent works of art rather than serving as shelters for artworks. This change has led to a crisis of function that emerges between art and museums which has resulted in criticism as well as artistic production. For this reason, the graduation work produced for the proficiency in art degree aimed to overcome the aforementioned crisis by way of artistic production. Throughout the report writing process, the history of the relation between sculpture and architecture and their transformation through ages have been taken into consideration. Furthermore, another point of research has been the contribution of the relation between architecture and sculpture to the conceptualization of museum which has become the subject of artistic production today. Because of the temple-based neoclassical style of the first museum building, the section on the history of sculpture – architecture relation has been limited to Greek Art. The following sections focus on 20th century art movements which had been influential on imageability of museum architecture on the basis of the relation between architecture and sculpture. Finally, the focus is given to artists' coping strategies with the crisis that emerge between art and museums which the latter overshadow the former with their architectural designs by portraying sample artistic works that define the museum space and turn it into a sculpture. Keywords: museum, sculpture, architecture, imageability, space, art
