The usage of glass in contemporary jewelry design, and the applications

Titled as "The Usage of Glass in Contemporary Jewelry Design, and The Applications", this thesis study focuses on the simultaneous basic concepts of jewelry and glass featured in the period of change and how the glass come into being as an expression in jewelry. In the research, aiming to identify glass in terms of jewelry design; relations between two different disciplines are dealt through their artistic aspects rather than commercial aspects. As for the development of this approach, distinguishing the types in which the glass ornaments come into being via the kinds of jewelry having been studied from various aspects has been effective. In this context, the aim is to present the phraseology, glass forms in jewelry, through the samples having been defined as the abstract indicators of the relations between the two disciplines. While the expression "contemporary jewelry" which is tried to be explained in this study, points the end of the 20th century and 21st century when the jewelry began to lose its dependence with a specific style or movement, it required to be studied through the basic concepts of the past. Not being able to improve of dealing with jewelry with a modern approach in Turkey in the same direction with the western counties directed the research subject to the worldwide approaches. With two collections designed as indication of glass' ability to present both an artistic and classical but innovative approach as a jewelry material, it has been aimed to show that it's possible to go beyond the classical jewelry perception and to carry out a supportive study for jewelry tendencies. These two collections representing the plot of the study as a supplementary of the qualitative research data are predicted to give a new point of view to the design world which is studying/has studied on the relevant field. In research observation, participation observation and semi-structured interview data as well as literature search were used for citing expressions about jewelry and glass. Self and corporate interactive publications were also used for gathering the data by observing the relevant studies on the chosen subject directly or indirectly and this was to be an effective method in defining the types and frequency of preferring glass in jewelry design.
