Abstract (EN)

This study includes the transcription and evaluation of an important commercial record book from the late Ottoman period. The Summary Record Book No. 556, dated H. 07-04-1299 / M. 26-02-1882, is one of the primary sources shedding light on the Ottoman trade system. The content of the book provides significant data on commercial transactions, merchant activities, trade routes, and the economic policies of the Ottoman Empire. Trade in the Ottoman Empire had a structured organization aimed at establishing economic connections between domestic and foreign markets. Commercial activities were carried out by both resident and traveling merchants, who played a crucial role in the Ottoman economy and contributed directly to the state's taxation system. The examined record book particularly offers valuable insights into trade routes, customs taxes, and merchant records, aiding in a deeper understanding of the Ottoman economic structure. As part of the thesis, the transcription of the record book was conducted, translating the Ottoman Turkish text into modern Turkish. Additionally, the content of the book was analyzed within the framework of the Ottoman economic and trade system. The study explores the Ottoman tax system, regulations affecting trade development, the security of trade routes, and the state's control over commercial activities. In conclusion, this thesis makes a significant contribution to understanding the commercial activities of the Ottoman Empire and the role of merchants within the economic system. Based on archival Ottoman documents, this study presents essential findings on the functioning of the Ottoman economy, serving as a primary source for historical research.
