Rumeli Kazaskerliği Ruznamçe Register dated 1255-1256 Hijri (No. 205) (Translation and evaluation)

Ruznamçe books are important archival sources that should be consulted in order to understand the functioning of the Ottoman provincial administration in general and the ilmiye organization in particular. In this study, in which the ruznamçe book numbered 205 of the Rumeli Kazaskerate is translated into contemporary letters, the appointments of qadi and muderris made in 1255-1256 Hijri are analyzed. Based on the appointment records, we have determined how the qadi administered the qazas, the tenure of the qadi, the period of their resignation, the adjectives or prefixes used for qadi and muderris, as well as other duties of the qadi. In addition, the appointments made to madrasas in Istanbul, which constitute a short section of the ruznamçes, are also discussed, and the data are processed under the relevant headings. The topics are supported with examples from the ruznamçe book and tables, graphs and figures based on the information obtained from the ruznamçe book. In addition, the Ottoman ilmiye organization, madrasah and the muderriship, the kaza and the qadiyat, the mulazemet system, the institution of the kazaskerate and the ruznamçe books are generally evaluated in the light of the relevant sources.
