Abstract (EN)
This thesis examines the YearBook of Aydın Province (Aydın Vilayeti Salnamesi) of 1901 ( H. 1319). Yearbooks (salnames) are annual informative publications of the Ottoman Government, giving details about provinces, the military, and specific private organizations and individuals. Following the Tanzimat Edict, according to its "Provincial Regulations" of 1864 and 1871, yearbooks were started to be published in provincial printing houses. Consequently, Sarajevo published the first provincial yearbook. Yearbooks of Aydın province were published in twenty-five issues between 1879 and 1928, whereas some provincial Salnamas were only published once. This thesis offers a transliteration of the twenty-first issue, published in 1901. By concentrating on the yearbook, this study attempts to evaluate Aydın's various contexts in the early 20th century. Furthermore, it provides statistical information on the province of Aydın, which consists of five sanjaks, namely İzmir, Aydın, Saruhan, Menteşe, and Denizli. Similarly, the thesis examines the economic, historical, cultural, military, and geographic data regarding the communities of these regions and their population, households, ethnic diversity, and vernacular languages. Along with some information about the consulates, schools, mosques, churches, and synagogues in the province, the yearbook also contains information on the historical structures in districts and educational institutions, as well as the history behind the names of these locations. Keywords: Aydın Province, Yearbook, Salnames, 1901, 1319
