Investigating the effects of emphathetic and moral sufficiency on decision making styles of referees

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of emphaty and moral sufficiency on decision making styles. The population of research consisted of 3700 individuals from International and National referees who serve at Underwater, Track and Field, Taekwondo, Wrestling, Judo, Karate, Handball, Volleyball, Basketball Federations. The sample group of of this research consisted of 586 referees who were selected randomly and participated voluntarily in the research. In study, Demographical information forms which was prepared by researcher, 20 item ''Emphathetic Tendency Scale'' developed by Dökmen (1988), and 66 item ''Moral Sufficiency Scale'' developed by Şengün and Kaya (2008), and 'Melbourne Decision Making Scale'' consisting of two seperate parts and 28 item which was adopted in Turkish by Deniz (2004) and developed by Mann et. al. was used. The data obtained from the research were analysed with SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) Windows 22.0 programme. In the evaluation of data number, per cent, average and standart deviation methods were used as statistical method. T test was used In comparison of quantitative constant data between two independent groups and One Way Anova test was used in comparison of quantitative constant data between more than two independent groups. In order to define the differences after Anova test, Scheffe test was used as Post-Hoc analysis. Pearson Correlation and Regression analysis were used among constant variables of research. Regression analysis was found as statistically significant which was mad efor defining cause effect relationship between self-esteem in decision making and empathetical tendency. (F=62,611; p=0,000<0.05). Moral Sufficiency and Empathetic Tendency relationship were seen to be weak (R2=0,174). Moral Sufficiency Level of Referees increases self-esteem level (ß=0,061). In addition; Moral sufficiency and empathetic tendency levels increase attentive decision making level and avoidant decision making, and self-esteem. And also it was determined that moral sufficency and empathetic tendency levels of referees decrease panic and postponer decision making levels.
