Monophony in Halid Ziya Uşaklıgil's novels

The fact that monophonicity, adapted to the field of literature by Bahtin, is taken as a benchmark for the elucidation of the distinctive aspects of Dostoevsky's artistic design makes it difficult to frame it only in terms of the work of the Russian theorist. However, despite the implied difficulty, it is possible to identify the factors that unify a selected set of novels in the Bettinian sense by finding the connections between the voice of the narrator, in the position of reflective consciousness, and that of the protagonist. Rhetorical devices such as empiricism of feeling, non-verbal communication, aphorism, foresight and objectification (tabulation-sculpting) used in the presentation of Halid Ziya's novel heroes to the reader prove that the voice of the hero actually belongs to the narrator. Examining their evolution makes it easier to identify the breaking points in the author's novelism, as well as revealing the fact that the reader's role in the interpretive construction of the work is restricted and that his works are monophonic.
