Investigation of problems, confronted by women at a pregnancy period, related to carrying out house or family responsibilities

This research was carried out to detect the change of feelings and behaviors during pregnancy period of women, home appliances that ease housework, range of household assistance and how hard the house and profession labor is for working pregnant women. The research was carried upon pregnant women who applied for Zekai Tahir Burak Research and Education Health Hospital, located in Altindag district, Ankara. Research sample constitutes from 400 women who applied to the hospital during 2008 period. The research data is collected both from questionnaires and face-to-face conversations with pregnant women.Pregnant women participated in the research are mostly of 24-? age group and ± 26.3 (42.0%) age group as average age, 43.8% of women are elementary school graduates, 39.8% of women who have been married for 2 years or less than 2 years, 45.0% of women who have their first pregnancy and who are in their last pregnancy trimester (46.8%) are in a majority. Among the participated pregnant women (n=400), 58 women work in a job, which is approximately 15% of all women. Almost half of families (40.3%) of these women have income that are between 601TL and 1000 TL and average monthy income of family is ± 1105.8TL.According to research findings, for women at first trimester who suffer from nousea and vomiting and women in case of miscarriage threat at second trimester, the need for household support is found to be high (p<.05). Pregnant women above 31 ages are found to face with more difficulties in accomplishing house work than other age groups (24-? age and between 25 and 30) and is found to be important (p<.05). The pregnant women at third trimester get more diffuculties in household cleaning and shopping, which is found meaningful (p<.05). The pregnant women at third trimester confront difficulties in cleaning rug, doors and windows that is found (p<.05). Almost half of pregnant women at third trimester do not have difficulties to cook, and the other half of pregnant women have difficulties to cook at first trimester, according to statistical investigation this difference is found to be important (p<.05).Moreover, it is determined that spouses help their wives relatively more in their pregnancy period. Besides, it is also determined that university graduate spouses help more than the elementary school and secondary school graduate spouses.As a result of the research, we can conclude that women face with various difficulties during pregnancy period and spouse with higher education level help more to their wives.Keywords: Woman, Pregnancy, Home Affairs
