Abstract (EN)

Aim: The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of planned education on hospital fears in 6-12 years old children hospitalized. Material and Method: This study included children between the ages of 6 and 12 who stayed in Manisa Celal Bayar University Hafsa Sultan Hospital Child Health and Diseases service between April 2018 and June 2019. A total of 102 children between the ages of 6-12 in the hospital, 52 experimental and 50 control groups, were included in the study. The research data were collected by face-to-face interview technique using the introduction form containing the sociodemographic characteristics of the children and their families and the Medical Procedure Fear Scale.A questionnaire was applied before the training for the experimental group. 2 days after this training, the same questionnaire was applied again to evaluate the training effectiveness.Questionnaires were applied to the control group. The same questionnaire forms were applied again to the same group 2 days after without any training. In the evaluation of the data, chi-square for the significance between the data by making percentage distributions of the data, T Test in Dependent Groups, T Test in Independent Groups, Mann Whitney U Test, Wilcoxon Signed Row Tests, Kolmogorov-Smirnov normal distribution test and Pearson Correlation Analysis to evaluate the relationship between the scales were performed . Results: It was determined that 92.15%of the children participating in the study were slightly afraid of medical procedures, 4.9%were very afraid and 2.94%were not afraid at all. According to the medical procedure fear scale, it was determined that the children were in the 'I'm a little scared' group, but in both groups, the posttest mean total scores were lower than the pretest mean total scores. Conclusions: As a result of the study, it was found that there is a bit of fear of total medical procedures in children 6-12 years old and gender and family education level factors affect this fear. This situation reveals the need to carry out intervention studies that reduce fear.
